Independent evidence: another user declares love for WestlawNext
January 27, 2012
This week WestlawNext received another user declaration of love. A half-dozen marriage proposals have come across my screen, via Twitter and Facebook, from small firm attorneys and law students in the midst of research. We also see occasional declarations of love sans marriage proposal, such as a Tweet this week.
It reminded me to pass along a new WestlawNext Reviews & Awards (“the evidence page”) where attorneys can find a summary of independent feedback on WestlawNext legal research, all from independent third-party sources such as:
- Journal articles, including a recent WestlawNext iPad app review by Jeff Richardson (iPhone J.D. Blog) picked up by the Wall Street Journal
- Awards
- Independent preference studies/surveys
- Technical product reviews
- Customer comments
- Tweets
You’ll notice that many of these articles also contain ideas for future improvement, which we greatly appreciate. They are all passed directly to our product developers. We want to hear about your experience as well. Feel free to provide feedback!

Let’s see how much Westlaw really wants ideas for future improvement. I challenge you to add the following articles to your Reviews and Awards page:
Easy Does It: Examining First-Year Law Student Impressions of the Online Resources They Use Most Often (http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1885524). The money quotes from the abstract: “It is not particularly useful to hear about a resource from its fans, without also hearing from individuals who are perhaps not as enamored with that resource” and “I found that, regardless of whether a student is using Lexis, Westlaw, or WestlawNext, students are overwhelmingly convinced that their resource is the easiest to use.”
