A Day in the Life of a Solo attorney at NY LegalTech
February 3, 2012
On Tuesday, I followed attorney Lisa Solomon through New York LegalTech. I wanted to see what it was like for a solo attorney to get the most out of a show primarily geared toward large firms. The result: regardless of firm size, there is always an opportunity to learn something new and make connections.
Part 1: Blogger’s Breakfast and Social Media session
3 Tips from “Technology and Social Media” session:
- You don’t get what you don’t ask for. Have a call to action on your website.
- Make your website interactive. Ask people to do something, i.e. subscribe to your blog, download a white paper, etc.
- Engage in conversation. Also strive to be the subject of the conversation by providing valuable content to a targeted audience.
Part 2: Exhibit Hall and Meetup dinner for solo and small firm attorneys
Touring the exhibit halls, Lisa:
- Learned about collaboration tools available on WestlawNext
- Met company representatives for services and products that she uses
- Provided a testimonial for service she has happily used for years
At the end of the day, Lisa hosted a Meetup dinner for solo and small firm attorneys at a local restaurant. It was a great opportunity to meet with colleagues and make new connections. I personally enjoyed being a part of the festivities – from great company to amazing food!
The overall tip to take away from Lisa: “Meet people and try to do some networking.”
