WESTLAW NEXT Tip of the Week: Research Icons Increase Your Efficiency and Productivity
December 5, 2011
Research icons boost your efficiency and productivity by instantly letting you know where you’ve already been and what you’ve already done. Look for these icons, which indicate previous document activity:
Previously Viewed
The document was previously viewed in the last 30 days with the Client ID you are using.
Saved to Folder
The document is saved in a folder that you own (i.e. My Folders).
Note Added
You have added a note or highlighted text within the document.
Research Icons on Lists
While viewing a list of documents, research icons will give you instant information about your past interaction with those documents. You’ll see the icons on search result lists, KeyCite lists, and document lists in your research history and folders.

Research Icons on Documents
Research icons will also display on individual documents. You’ll see the icons in the upper right corner of the document.

Filtering Search Results
You can also use the research icons to narrow your search results. WestlawNext provides individualized filters that will limit search results to documents that you’ve previously viewed or saved to a folder. Simply check the desired boxes and your results will be updated immediately.
